Quick verdict: what the Trojena project promises
The Trojena project sets out to change how mountain tourism works by building an environmentally focused tourism system inside NEOM. Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, chairman of the NEOM Board of Directors, announced it on March 30, 2022.
The headline feature is year-round skiing on peaks between 1,500 m and 2,600 m, described as the first outdoor mountain sports experience of its kind in the Kingdom. Events and activities for adventure travelers are set for completion by 2026.

Where the Trojena project sits
Trojena is placed in the center of NEOM, fifty km from the Gulf of Aqaba coastline on the Red Sea. Three international airports sit within reach: NEOM Bay Airport, Tabuk International Airport and Aqaba Airport.
Access is a deliberate selling point. Around 40 percent of the world’s population can reach the site within six hours by air. The wider development timeline is set out in the NEOM project milestones and the industrial component in Oxagon.
Climate behind the Trojena project
Temperatures at Trojena drop below zero in winter, and year-round conditions run about ten degrees cooler than the rest of the region. That difference is the whole basis of the concept and it is the same reason travelers already head to snowfall spots in Saudi Arabia and winter mountain destinations.
Official updates on the destination are published by NEOM.
What visitors are meant to do there
The plan pairs skiing with outdoor sport and adventure programming, supported by retail and dining across a large share of the built area. It targets a segment that currently leaves the region for alpine holidays.
Mountain travel inside the Kingdom already has a following, visible in trips to the Hejaz mountains, al-Faqra and established climbing locations.
How it fits national tourism plans
Trojena is one piece of a broader push tracked by the Ministry of Tourism and reflected in the winter tourism season. Sports investment is moving in the same direction, as seen with NEOM Sport Club.
Final verdict
Altitude and proximity to three airports are the two facts that make Trojena credible. Watch the 2026 activity milestone rather than the renderings, because that is where the concept meets delivery.
