Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber, recently said that we will see autonomous Cars on the roads of Saudi Arabia this year. He mentioned this during a discussion at an important event called the Saudi-US Investment Forum.
Khosrowshahi believes these cars will make travel safer for everyone. Since autonomous cars don’t get distracted like human drivers do, they can help prevent accidents. He thinks they will also be cheaper to use than regular cars.
Working Together for Safety
Uber is partnering with 18 other companies to make sure these self-driving cars are safe before they hit the streets. Khosrowshahi shared that there are already 140,000 Saudi drivers using Uber in 20 cities, with around 4 million riders in total.
Uber and Public Transport
Khosrowshahi explained how Uber works well with public transportation. Instead of competing with buses and trains, Uber helps people get to and from those services. For example, if someone rides the Riyadh Metro, they can use Uber for the first or last part of their journey at a discount.
