Saudi Arabia Arrests Nearly 20,000 Illegal Residents in One Week

Riyadh: Saudi security authorities arrested 19,975 illegal residents in one week. The Ministry of Interior announced the figures on Saturday.

The arrests followed intensified inspection campaigns across the Kingdom. Security forces carried out joint field inspections. They worked with relevant government agencies. The campaign took place from January 22 to January 28.

Details of the Violations

The ministry shared details of the violations.

  • A total of 12,906 people violated the Residency Law.
  • Another 3,918 people broke the Border Security Law.
  • Authorities also arrested 3,151 people for Labor Law violations.

Legal and Deportation Measures

Officials referred 16,595 violators to their diplomatic missions. This was done to obtain travel documents. Another 1,820 people were sent to complete travel arrangements. During the same period, 14,867 violators were deported.

Illegal Border Crossing Attempts

The ministry also reported illegal border crossing attempts.

Security forces arrested 1,716 people trying to enter Saudi Arabia illegally.

  • About 39 percent were Yemeni nationals.
  • Around 60 percent were Ethiopian nationals.
  • The remaining one percent belonged to other nationalities.

Authorities also arrested 48 people attempting to leave the Kingdom illegally.

Arrests for Aiding Violators

Security forces detained 11 people for aiding violators. They were accused of providing transportation, shelter, or employment.

Current Legal Status of Violators

At present, 23,472 expatriates are undergoing legal procedures. This includes 21,862 men and 1,610 women.

Ministry of Interior Warning

The Ministry of Interior issued a strong warning. Anyone who helps illegal residents will face strict penalties. This includes facilitating entry, transport, housing, or employment.

Punishments may include:

  • Prison sentences of up to 15 years.
  • Fines can reach SR1 million.
  • Vehicles and properties used will be confiscated.

Public Reporting Channels

The ministry urged the public to report violations.

  • Residents can call 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province.
  • In other regions, they can call 999 or 996.

Objective of the Campaign

Authorities said these efforts aim to strengthen security. They also aim to enforce residency, labor, and border laws nationwide.
