Jeddah Student Brings Home International Award
Saudi Arabia won a bronze medal at the 2025 International Nuclear Science Olympiad in Malaysia. The competition took place in Kuala Lumpur from July 30 to August 6, 2025.

Azam Khaled Al-Omari, a student from Jeddah, won the bronze medal for Saudi Arabia. This makes him the Kingdom’s latest science champion on the world stage.
Saudi Arabia’s Track Record
This is Saudi Arabia’s fifth medal ever in this competition. The Kingdom now has:
- 1 silver medal
- 4 bronze medals
About the Competition
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad had 56 students from 14 countries competing this year. The competition is officially supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since 2024.
The contest helps promote safe and peaceful uses of nuclear technology. It encourages young students to learn about nuclear science.
How Students Prepare
Saudi students get ready for this competition with help from several organizations:
- King Abdulaziz Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba)
- Ministry of Education
- King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST)
- King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE)
The Competition Format
Students take two difficult 5-hour exams:
- Theory exam – Testing knowledge
- Practical exam – Doing experiments and computer simulations
Both tests require strong thinking skills and creative problem-solving abilities.
